Data Policy & Telemetry Handling

VelocityVerify measures broadband performance with browser-based measurement while adhering to strict data minimization principles. We believe privacy and network diagnostics are not mutually exclusive. This policy details exactly what telemetry our speed test captures, how IP addresses are protected, how long data is retained, and how public aggregates are constructed.
Core Privacy Guarantee: We never sell, lease, or monetize your individual speed test records or IP addresses. Speed test diagnostic metrics and email newsletter records are completely separated in our architecture.
1. Telemetry Collected During a Speed Test
When you initiate a speed test on VelocityVerify, our client engine captures purely technical network transport metrics:
- Throughput Samples: Aggregated byte counts over time intervals for download and upload streams.
- Latency Measurements: Round-trip time (RTT) samples during idle state and under active load.
- Statistical Variance: Calculated jitter (P90) and estimated packet retransmissions.
- Diagnostic Metadata: Autonomous System Number (ASN), ISP commercial name (derived via GeoIP lookup), coarse regional location (city/metro level), browser family, and operating system.
We do not access, inspect, or log your browsing history, DNS queries, visited URLs, packet contents, or device hardware serial numbers.
2. IP Address Minimization & Anonymization
An IP address is necessary during a test session to physically route TCP packets between your client and our edge server. Once the diagnostic test terminates:
- Zero Raw IP Storage: We do not store full raw IPv4 or IPv6 addresses in persistent databases.
- Results storage: When optional database bindings are enabled, the results endpoint stores performance metrics and ISP text; it does not include the visitor's IP address in the stored results record.
- No account linkage: Speed tests do not require an account and the results payload does not include an account identifier.
3. Telemetry Retention Lifecycle
All diagnostic records follow a strict, automated lifecycle:

4. Public ISP Index & Anti-Abuse Protections
Our Global ISP Performance Index publishes regional broadband delivery ratios and latency averages. To protect user privacy and prevent data poisoning:
- Minimum Sample Thresholds: No regional or ISP statistic is published unless it represents a statistically significant cluster of distinct connections, eliminating the risk of identifying individual households.
- Abuse & Bot Filtering: Automated scrapers, DDoS attempts, and synthetic bursts are filtered using rate limiting and server-side anomaly detection.
5. Your Rights Under GDPR & CCPA/CPRA
Regardless of your geographic location, VelocityVerify respects your fundamental digital rights:
- Right to Know & Access: You can export your active speed test session data directly as JSON or CSV using our on-page export tools.
- Right to Deletion: Newsletter subscribers may request deletion of their subscription record at any time.
- Non-Discrimination: We never degrade test precision, restrict site functionality, or charge fees to users who decline cookies or exercise privacy rights.
