A detector label does not establish what was measured
Ask what traffic the tool sends, which endpoints it uses, how timing is collected, and which raw observations are retained. A branded result or score does not by itself identify deliberate provider interference. This page is a method-review checklist, not a fresh review of another service’s current interface or a comparative product ranking.
Look for a reproducible method
Useful documentation identifies the measurement protocol, destination, sample rules, timing source, failure handling, and exclusions. Check whether a claim is supported by retained records rather than a selected screenshot. Distinguish throughput, idle timing, loaded timing, and application observations. A tool that does not measure packet loss cannot derive it from a speed number.
Treat a VPN comparison as a changed route
A VPN may change the exit, destination selection, processing, and path. A difference between runs does not uniquely establish intentional throttling. Record the device, interface, task, endpoint, time, and other traffic. Alternate runs, retain failures, and compare the actual affected service. Do not use arbitrary speed-spread or VPN-percentage thresholds as a diagnosis.
The earlier diagnosis worksheet is retired
The previous worksheet applied unsupported cutoffs to entered speed and latency figures. Those cutoffs did not establish throttling or a failed network component, so the interactive calculator has been removed. This replacement does not accept figures or generate a verdict. Use a dated observation log and the provider’s published network-management terms instead.
Know the limits of this site too
VelocityVerify reports browser HTTP timing estimates and throughput, not independent bare-metal routing verification, end-to-end packet loss, or a separate upload-loaded timing series. New letter grades are withheld. Missing timing evidence remains unavailable even if a speed is displayed. Do not present this site’s test as an authoritative throttling detector.
Escalate a documented pattern
Keep repeated observations from several times and services, including warnings and ordinary household traffic. Ask the provider what additional checks can narrow the cause. Where available, consult its Broadband Consumer Label and linked network-management information. A documented complaint can describe the observed symptom without asserting a cause the evidence does not establish.
